Online Instructor Webinar Series


In addition to formal training session, eLearning Training and Instructional Design staff conduct online webinar workshops focusing on instruction, technology and tools within Blackboard Learn.  In each of these sessions, your facilitator will provide an overview of the topic, best practices and tools available to create or facilitate. Interested individuals can register for the workshop via the weblinks provided.

Teaching Online and Instructor Orientation Webinar

The new instructor orientation webinar provides a general overview of the online teaching experience from training to teaching your course.  We start with an overview of online education. Then we move onto the similarities & differences between online from other modes of instruction as well as tackle some online education myths. After that we’ll cover common practices in teaching online and course development. Lastly, we’ll talk about training, instructional and technical support available and how to get started. We will leave time at the end for questions and answers (Q&A).

 
This webinar will run approximately 50 minutes in length with Q&A at the end.

Basic Overview of Blackboard: Navigation, Functions & Tools

The Grade Center in Blackboard, much like a traditional paper grade book, helps instructors organize and manage student submissions and evaluate performance. But unlike the traditional counterpart, the Grade Center has a broad range of features and automated options to help with overall course management.

In this workshop, we will present a basic overview of features, and functionalities within the Grade Center. Beyond basic navigation of the Grade Center, we will explore automated grade calculations, student-submission tracking, monitoring student progress, creating categories and smart views.

Constructing Your Course: Creating, Uploading, Editing & Deleting Content

This webinar session focuses on the Build Content function within Blackboard Learn. We will cover all of the tools and features needed to develop your course layout and structure. Next, we will go over how to create, upload, delete and edit content in your course. At the end of the session, participants will know the basics of creating the unit or weekly folder structure and how to add content to their course.

Quizzes, Test & Surveys in Blackboard Overview

In this introductory session, we will offer an introductory overview of the features available for creating quizzes and surveys. Universal Design


Universal Design: Overview

Legislation and recent lawsuits have made colleges and universities increasingly concerned with accessibility issues. Continuing education programs strive to serve all learners, including those who may require special accommodations to achieve their learning objectives. Universal design principles help build courses that maximize learning by all students. In this presentation we will provide an overview of what universal design is and discuss the rationale for and practical application of universal design to web-enhanced and online courses. Synchronous Tools for Online - Blackboard Collaborate

Blackboard Collaborate is a powerful synchronous conferencing tool built into Blackboard Learn. It can be used for holding individual office hours, leading collaborative group sessions, and presenting live lectures - all with Interactive text chat and (optional) audio and video. During the workshop, we will present basic features and functionalities of the Blackboard Collaborate tool. Afterwards, we’ll move to a practice area, to experience the interactive functionality.
