In an effort to ensure access to UMassOnline's community of users as well as others who might provide insight as we undertake the LPR, all content, comments and attachments are accessible by the public.

Learning Platform Review Goals

The goals of the LPR process focus on our approach to soliciting input from the user community, indexing those contributions in a comprehensive manor and communicating the resulting information to prospective partners.

  • Inclusive: The contribution of business, functional and technical requirements is available to all UMassOnline stakeholders. Comments, contributions and critiques regarding the LPR process are sought from peers across UMassOnline, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the broader Higher Education community.
  • Comprehensive: The scope of online teaching and learning within UMassOnline extends beyond the features and functions of a Learning Management System. Great care should be taken to include all of the factors that affect the design, creation, implmentation, administration and management of technology assisted education.
  • Transparent: The information collected, as well as the accompanying conversations and decisions, throughout the LPR process will be available for review by the public.
  • Open: The final direction, processes and objectives of the LPR process are subject to the direction of those who participate.

Learning Platform Review Objectives

The objectives of the LPR process focus on the outcomes we hope to enable through the LPR process

  • Facilitate continued access to the variety of features and functionality enabling and advancing the diverse teaching styles, across a broad portfolio of disciplines, throughout UMassOnline.
  • Resolve the gaps in current practice to enhance the design, development and delivery of online education.
  • Provide a mechanism for assessing the fidelity of course (teaching and learning activities) and content (learning objects) migration from the legacy LMS to candidate platforms.
  • Maintain continuity in UMassOnline's enterprise level services & support, while recognizing and accommodating the unique local needs of individual campuses, programs and end-users.
  • Ensure fiscal responsibility in the implementation and administration of the learning platform across the University, the campuses and UMassOnline.
  • Certify compatibility with the existing technology infrastructures across the University-system as well as the skill set of the staff that supports it.
  • Assure business alignment between the learning platform and the current office, administrative, legal, etc. policies and processes employed on campuses, within UMassOnline and across the University.

Learning Platform Review Process

The above goals are achieved through the LPR Considerations described in section 4.0 of the LPR, "How are we doing this?" and specifically outlined in section 4.1. The Learning Platform Review Process.
